OVERSEEDING & SEEDING

Thin Lawn? Bare Spots? We Fix That.

Even healthy lawns develop thin areas and bare patches over time. Traffic, drought, shade, and seasonal stress all take a toll. Smart Edge Lawn Treatment offers professional overseeding to restore density and fill in the gaps — using the right seed for your specific grass type and soil conditions.

We don’t just throw seed down and hope. We prep the lawn properly, apply at the correct rate, and set you up with a watering plan so the seed actually establishes.

Our seeding services:

∙ Overseeding thin lawns — restore density without full renovation

∙ Bare spot repair — targeted seeding for damaged areas

∙ Starter fertilizer application — high-phosphorus formula for new root development

∙ Grass type consultation — we identify what you have and match the right seed

Best time to seed:

∙ Bermuda & Zoysia — late April through June

∙ Fescue — September through October

WEED CONTROL

If you live in Dutch Fork or Irmo, you already know the enemy — crabgrass. It moves fast, spreads aggressively, and takes over thin lawns every single summer. Once it’s established it’s almost impossible to remove without damaging the grass around it. The only real solution is stopping it before it starts.

South Carolina’s warm climate and long growing season make crabgrass one of the most persistent lawn problems in the region. It germinates when soil temperatures hit 55–60°F — typically late February through March here in the Midlands — and by the time you see it, it’s already won.

The professional approach has two phases:

Phase 1 — Pre-Emergent (the most important step)

Applied in late winter before soil temps rise, a pre-emergent herbicide creates a chemical barrier in the soil that stops crabgrass seeds from germinating. Miss this window and you’re playing catch-up all season. Most homeowners miss it every year because they don’t know the timing. We do.

Phase 2 — Post-Emergent (cleanup)

For crabgrass that’s already visible, selective post-emergent herbicides target and kill it without harming your Bermuda, Zoysia, or Fescue. Combined with overseeding the thin spots where crabgrass got in, this is how you take your lawn back permanently.

What we treat:

∙ Crabgrass — the #1 lawn invader in the SC Midlands

∙ Broadleaf weeds — clover, dandelion, chickweed, and more

∙ Annual and perennial grassy weeds

∙ Bed and edge weed control
